Romans, Countrymen and Lovers- Let me explain the HIStory of the world.

"Romans, Countrymen and Lovers", that was the start to my reading assignment passage for my Managerial Communication class yesterday. the content of the passage was such that I was supposed to be Brutus ( Yuck.. I like Caeser more - Atleast I could have flirted with Cleopatra that way, ( or was it Antony who flirted with Cleopatra))- forgive me if I am wrong in my history.

Nevertheless, Me being Brutus, I was supposed to justify to my colleagues ( or rather, my fellow countrymen) in a convicing stage performance (without the usual theatricals) & marvellous communication talk, as to why I thought slewing Ceaser was a pretty cool thing to do then. - ( I have done similar presentations and talks in my work life where on a few occasions, I had confidently bull-shitted my way thru on , but this was different, as the period of set in History and you know how weak I am in history.)

Anyway now doing a fast forward (and skipping the part where I did my speech and nobody got convinced - Infact I was so unconvincing, I myself felt bad for killing Caeser- at the end of the day he was pretty cool dude man, I shouldnt have killed him), But the point was, it made me thinking as to what History was and how do you believe it. OR lemme explain, tell me "Was Brutus right in killing Ceaser, or should he have stayed at home and watched "Friends" instead and wondered what a lovely pal, Ceaser was.

Now, Seriouly Thinking ( and deeply so, going to the deepest parts of my brain), I realised that Brutus was right in his own way, for his own acts, and Caesers for his. Nobody can really say who's right and who's wrong and thats the funny part about HISTORY. Whether you believe in Caeser's story or Brutus's story depends on whose side of the story you believe in or put it other way, History is never accurate that it always somebody's intrepretation of the his side of the story. ( or rather who's telling the History).

PS:Just a sec here, The credit for this idea goes to my Organisation Behaviour "Prof Dr. Fenn", These are my intrepretations of what he had taught in class.

Taking this a little further, the very word History comes from "His" " Story", which just means his side of the story. Take any incident of history of that matter, we generally tend to accept whatever we are told, BUT how do you very whats the truth. for example, we all have read in our history books that Alexander was a great emperor, but how do you know he was indeed a great emperor ( have you met him in person, All you know was that somebody felt, he was a great guy). I am saying, For all you know he could have very well been a blood thirsty warrior, who enjoys killing people and is a chauvinist with a perverted mind ( Now C'mon, even with my weak history knowledge, I know alteast thats not possible, as playboy was not published then, and Internet was still in its conceptual stages). But still therotically, if you really extrapolate, this shall be the case with every other historic fact too (Dan Brown made a billion by weaving a story out of this concept- you would realise this If you really understand what is he trying to say).

Think Again.

  • Why do you pray to the gods you do, - do you do it because you really believe in them or do you do it, because somebody ( typically the pontiff or the head guru) thought wow its pretty cool to pray to this god, ok from now on, everybody in our religion shall pray to this god.
  • If the US said, Iraq has WMD ( weapons of mass destruction), find facts and question as whether is it so really. ( it doesnt matter whether you really find it out or not - Even till date, Bush also doesn't know that), but still the point is dont accept whatever is being said at face value.
  • Was Pakistan right in asking for Kashmir ( Hell no, Kick them, I am an Indian), but still question, whats their side of the story, or what thier HIStory.
Find facts.

Infact its for this precise reason that I dont read the Times of India, its such a useless paper. They never state the facts, they rather intrepret the fact and provide us thier opinion (who cares about what they think). and funny its rated the Worlds largest read english daily, ( Maybe people thought, why go thru all the extreme of finding the facts and thinking about it, isnt it easier for us to let somebody else us to think for us and provide us with thier opinion - Theory of Marginal Utility being put to use).

Ok, Guess I have made my point, and to put an ending note, Dont even take whatever I have put here at face value, BEGIN, by questioning this too.
